Expanding Our Reach

The James L. Camp, Jr. Family YMCA merged with the YMCA of South Hampton Roads in 2009 and continues its commitment to provide opportunities for children and families to build healthy relationships through recreation and fellowship. The Y’s tradition of service was enhanced as our organizations jointly share the benefits of a network of family centers focused on its members and their communities. Working together with a shared vision serves even more people with a greater impact, and in essence, is a benefit to our community.

Capital Campaign Project: $1.2 million

The Y is the premier destination for families, healthy activity, wellness programs, innovative fitness and outreach services. To continue to be in the position to provide our community with the services it needs the most, the James L. Camp, Jr. Family YMCA facility must be revitalized. The project includes:

  • A complete renovation of locker rooms, including updated hot tub and spa facilities, which will modernize this 56 year-old building
  • Additional family-assist changing areas and private changing areas that will provide families with facilities they need to feel comfortable
  • Complete structural repairs on the indoor pool to give youth, competitive swimmers and families the most current in aquatic centers
