Aquatics
With lap lanes, open swim times, water exercise classes, swim lessons, swim teams and water playgrounds, the YMCA is well equipped to provide an enjoyable outlet of aquatic fun and fitness for the entire family. Our highly trained aquatic associates are nationally certified, holding certifications in CPR, AED, O2 Administration and Lifeguarding.
- Swim Lessons: YMCA Swim Lessons are taught by nationally certified instructors with additional safety training in CPR, First Aid, AED, and O2 administration. Certified lifeguards are on duty at all times. Our Swim Lessons offer a low student-teacher ratio to help children and adults, ranging in age from 6 months to adult, safely develop their skills and confidence in the water. All classes consist of eight 30-minute lessons. Private Swim Lessons are available.

Birthday Splash Parties
Have your birthday party at the YMCA in our indoor pool. Party is limited to 20 children (or adults with youthful attitudes) with 1-hour in the pool and 1-hour in a party room. Decorations, cake and snacks may be brought in.
Birthday Interactive Zone Parties
An Interactive Zone coach will lead your party with interactive challenges and competitions on our video-based cardio equipment. "Play with Purpose" is the concept of this unique birthday party theme.

| Lifeguard Certification |

This 38-hour course will train a participant to be a certified lifeguard with additional certification in CPR and First Aid.
Must be 16 years of age or older and be able to sit for long periods of time. Must be able to swim a continuous 500 yards using several strokes, dive and retrieve weighted objects. Classes will be held at the Mt. Trashmore Family YMCA pool.
Monday - Friday, 5 - 10 pm and Saturday and Sunday 10 am - 6 pm
$175 Members (CPR included)

It presents information on the basic skills and knowledge lifeguards need in pool, lake, river, surf and waterpark environments. The comprehensive course offers up-to-date information on how to guard by anticipating and preventing problems before they occur and by taking action to help those in danger when necessary. It also covers safety and survival skills, first aid in aquatic environments, spinal injury management and weather and open water dangers. Times: Saturday, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm; Sunday, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm

| Private Swim Lessons |

Private 6 or 8, 30-minute lessons.
Beginner
Polliwog - Can swim one length of the pool using front crawl, back crawl and tread water for 30 seconds.
Guppy - Must be able to jump in water unassisted and float comfortably on back. Swims underwater. Can perform front crawl with breathing. Treads water for 20 seconds.
Minnow - Can swim one length of the pool using front crawl, back crawl and tread water for 30 seconds.
Advanced
Fish - Must swim one length of pool using front crawl, back crawl, breast stroke, side stroke, elementary back stroke and tread water for 1 minute. Focuses on stroke development.
Flying Fish – Introduction to advanced swimming skills. The instructor refines previously learned strokes, encourages students to swim a distance of 100 yards and introduces the butterfly.
Shark – Must be able to swim 50 yards continuously in each stroke, and the instructor encourages students to swim a distance of 200 yards.

Different from a swim team, the Porpoise Club will allow the children to experience many aquatic activities such as conditional swimming, lifeguarding skills, kayaking, and water polo. Through these activities we will work to grow self-confidence, goal setting, and team building. New participants must try-out before registering for this program. The Porpoise Club is for ages 5-14 years.
5-14 years old. Swimmer must pass Minnow Level swim lessons or equivalent, which includes swimming continuously one length of the pool with rotary breathing. Registration Required.
