Older Adults
The YMCA Older Adults programs are designed to enrich the lives of people who are in their middle and older years by helping them develop skills to meet life's challenges. Older adults can stay active and healthy by participating in both physical and social activities. At the YMCA, older adults have a place to go to improve their fitness levels, explore new interests and make new friends!

Low Impact I - Evening

  A cardiovascular workout that uses movements where one foot always remains on the floor, putting minimal stress on the joints. Class may include some muscle strengthening exercises. This class is geared toward the beginner exerciser.

Massage Therapy - By Appointment Only

  Provides pain relief from tight muscles, increases mobility of joints, improves posture, circulation, tone & elasticity of the skin, quality of sleep. Reduces swelling from excess water retention, promotes faster healing from injuries and surgeries, increases vitality, energy and mental alertness, reduce stress.

Barbara is a certified Massage Therapist and has worked in the wellness and healing field for over 14 years. Barbara maintains her practice here at the Blocker Norfolk Family YMCA. She received her Massage Therapy Training at the Virginia Institute of Massage Therapy. Barbara is skilled in Swedish Massage, Sports Massage, and Chair Massage.

Robin has worked over ten years as a certified massage therapist. She received her training at the Cayce Reilly School of Massotherapy in Virginia Beach. She is skilled in deep tissue, injury rehab, reflexology, soft tissue release, Swedish and sports massage.

  Work with a Registered Dietitian by appointment and at your convenience to reach your personal fitness goals.

Sessions Include:
-Assessment of your personal knowledge of nutrition
-An individualized nutrition program designed for your lifestyle.
-One-on-one, one hour or half hour counseling sessions
-Sports Specific Nutrition
-Weight Management

Visit Member Services to fill out a Nutrition Questionnaire. You will be contacted by Eyal Gonen, Senior Health & Wellness Director. Purchase a Nutrition Counseling Package from Member Services & Start achieving your goals!

  This class combines 20 minutes of traditional water exercise, 20 minutes of another type of cardio in the pool and 20 minutes of strength training using a variety of equipment. This class is appropriate for all fitness levels.
Water Blast (Multi-Level) - Early Morning

Time: 6:00 am - 7:00 am
  Class may be held in the deep or shallow end of the pool using suspended or power moves. Also, incorporates strength training for muscle conditioning. This class is appropriate for all fitness levels.
