Youth Programs

At the YMCA we help develop the whole child - in Spirit, Mind and Body. We offer an outstanding variety of programs designed to encourage children to grow to their full potential by exposing them to sports, arts and crafts, music, and much more. By learning about themselves and others, they learn vital life skills and avenues of expression that they might have otherwise overlooked. Help your child reach their full potential by participating in some of the many classes at the YMCA.

  • G.E.K.O.: Group Exercise for Kids Only! Children 3-5 years old will have a great time in our Youth Gymnasium dancing, playing, meeting friends and getting their chance to experience fun while exercising and building healthy habits, just like Mom or Dad!
  • H.Y.P.E.: Home school YMCA Physical Education is happening at Taylor Bend Family YMCA! Taught by trained and qualified fitness trainers and staff, these home school P. E. classes focus on two main objectives: education and exercise. The education component of the curriculum covers the most recent research on nutrition, health and the benefits of exercise. The exercise component incorporates stretching, aerobics, physical activities in the gym and occasional aquatic exercise activities.
  • S.P.A.R.K.: Building strong bodies is part of the YMCA’s history. Strong bodies live longer! Strong bodies have organs that are healthy and work better! S.P.A.R.K. (Sports, Play and Active Recreation for Kids), is a fun program addition dedicated to improving the quantity and quality of physical activity for children. This program gives school-age children the time and opportunity to exercise and strengthen their still-growing bodies. This is the YMCA’s contribution to countering our nation’s growing epidemic of childhood obesity.
  • Karate: In our beginning martial arts classes, our goal is for students to build confidence and become fit while learning basic martial art fundamentals. Students will be promoted to appropriate belt ranks as their skills develop. Emphasis in these classes is placed on respect, discipline of character and "defense for self-defense only" as a common theme.
The YMCA is committed to providing programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all. If you and
your family need financial assistance in paying fees for YMCA programs or membership, just ask! Download
an Open Doors financial assistance application.
