Hilltop Family YMCA to host Welcoming Week Events
#WelcomingWeek is a time to celebrate the values that unite us, and an opportunity to make our community more welcoming to newcomers and to everyone who calls South Hampton Roads home. This Welcoming Week, taking place Sept. 15–24, 2017, The Hilltop Family YMCA will represent the YMCA of South Hampton Roads and join Welcoming America along with hundreds of YMCAs and other organizations nationwide in hosting events to celebrate immigrants’ contributions to communities, bringing together all residents in a spirit of unity. Welcoming Week activities at the Hilltop Family YMCA are open to the public and include an open house event featuring cultural traditions and a multicultural business owners networking event.
“Communities recognize the benefits of being welcoming and ensuring that everyone can fully contribute to a community’s prosperity,” said David Lubell, founder and executive director of Welcoming America. “Welcoming Week events are a powerful way to promote cross-cultural understanding and build bridges between new and long-time residents, which results in stronger communities for all.”
The Princess Anne Family YMCA and the Greenbrier Family YMCA also have plans to host Welcoming Week activities, including hilighting member stories, planned art projects in Stay & Play and activities in HYPE programs. If you would like to particpate in Welcoming Week, or for a list of events, give your center a call or come in and see us.
