Member Story Monday - Sydney
Sydney is a full-time student studying Recreational Therapy at George Mason University. But during her summer break, she always returns to the Y to work with young children as a camp counselor. Some years ago, Sydney was herself a day-camper in the Y. Today she is giving back and being the role model that her camp counselors were to her.

Transformation Tuesday
Jared grew up in the Y, playing youth sports, going to summer camp, and making friends. Today at just the age of 18, he is a Men's Physique Competitor who trains at the Great Bridge/Hickory Family YMCA. He hopes to one day become Mr. Olympia!

Wellness Wednesday
September is Health Aging Month. Here is a great article about it and advice for living healthy through the years. Our favorite advice: "Be positive in your conversations and your actions every day. When you catch yourself complaining, check yourself right there and change the conversation to something positive. (Tip: Stop watching the police reports on the local news.)"

Throwback Thursday
In 1952, the Norfolk Central YMCA had 13 Hi-Y and Tri Hi-Y Clubs for youth “to create, maintain and extend throughout the school, home and community, high standards of Christian character.” Today, teens still develop both leadership and community service skills in Teen Leaders Clubs.

Feel-good Friday
Taft has made tremendous strides in his mobility from his workouts at the Y. Due to an injury, this past March he could barely walk even with the aide of a cane. But with his faithful and consistent use of the indoor pool, he is lighter on his feet and has even stopped using his cane at times. And if you know Taft, you know that he might even show off a little when that is the case!
