Get Active
Exercising doesn’t always have to include weights and machines. Take advantage of the numerous activities available at the YMCA, such as rock wall climbing, dance classes, adult dodgeball and kickball leagues, racquetball or a
quick game of pick-up basketball.
If you don’t have time to visit the Y for a workout, incorporate physical activity into your daily routine. Walk the dog, dance with your kids, take a swim, do yard work or garden. Being healthy starts with being active on a daily basis.
Make Healthy Choices
Developing a healthy lifestyle comes down to two things, being more active and making healthier choices. Next time you’re standing in front of the vending machine, choose a healthy alternative to your usual candy bar or soda. Look for “greenlight” items in the vending machines at your YMCA, indicated by a green sticker next to the selection number.
Manage Your Portions
Each time you eat you have the ability to prevent disease and improve your health. Learn what foods and portions are right for you at www.mypyramid.gov.
The YMCA offers nutrition information through programs like the 12-Week Challenge and provides you access to registered dieticians through community partnerships. Visit the Member Services desk for more information about these programs.
Use Your Resources
As a YMCA member, you have several free resources available to help you begin and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Contact your local YMCA for details on the member programs listed on the previous page.
Not a member? That's ok. Look for the programs and partnerships available on the previous page. |
