Day Camp
YMCA Day Camp takes you back to tradition - an exciting full-day camping experience for boys and girls ages 5 through 13. Swimming, camp songs, assemblies, spirit sticks, family nights, value beads and DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) are just a few of the ways we build traditions. What else make YMCA camps so special? Values - Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility and Faith are the cornerstones of the program.

In addition, the YMCA adds a unique component to help children develop positive identities, values and social skills. That component is known as "Developmental Assets." These are 40 essential character-building blocks that young people need to grow up to be healthy, competent, caring and responsible adults. Our goal is to help youngsters acquire these building blocks to create a firm foundation for life - a positive identity; a strong sense of power, purpose and self-worth; and values that will enable them to make wise choices throughout life.

As another weekly choice for your child, we have created a variety of Specialty and Sport Camps that will allow your child to have a fun filled summer! These week-long camps provide a specialized half-day camp experience for your child for five days. Extended care is available at some locations.

Preschool Camp
Designed for children ages 3-5, Preschool Camp is an exciting time filled with a variety of activities for children to do all day long. Weekly themes allow the children to explore such fun things as: the beach, my America, camping, wild west, going on vacation, stripes, gardens, fruits & vegetables, the country fair, the Islands, and getting ready for school. Activities provide a developmentally appropriate, hands-on learning experience for children that is offered in a more casual summer mode. In addition, the program is enriched with swimming, sports and movement. We offer full-day at our Salem Family Center and Mt. Trashmore locations.
Resident Camp at Camp Silver Beach
Experiencing time away from home, on 151 beautiful acres on the Chesapeake Bay, is the perfect adventure for your child! The 1,200 feet of pristine shoreline offers sailing, kayaking, fishing, motor boating and more. Visit the Camp Silver Beach website for more information.
Teen Camp

Teens can be a part of the YMCA summer experience too. Several branches offer teen programs throughout the summer. Leadership programs, travel camps, sports programs, and more are available to ensure your teen has a fun and rewarding summer.

Counselor-In-Leadership-Training (C.I.L.T.) is a full-day program designed to teach enthusiastic young adults leadership skills and the fundamentals of working with children. Candidates must submit an application. Once selected, the teen will spend part of the day in the classroom learning skills such as first aid and child development, and part of the day with their mentoring counselor as a counselor-in-training. This program is for youth ages 14-15 who are attending high school.

Camp Red Feather
YMCA Camp Red Feather is a traditional day camp for boys and girls ages 5-15 (must have completed Kindergarten) that takes place in a beautiful, 50-acre, outdoor setting. Operated by the Blocker Norfolk Family YMCA, Camp Red Feather takes place on the campus of Virginia Wesleyan College, less than a mile from Lake Wright and just minutes from many locations in Virginia Beach.

Camp Red Feather is fully licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a child day care program. Visit the Camp Red Feather website for more information.
