Teen Leaders Travel to NC for Fall Adventure Rally
This past weekend, 25 teen leaders from the Indian River and Blocker Norfolk Family YMCAs traveled south to North Carolina for a Fall Adventure Rally hosted by the YMCA of Greater Charlotte. Teens enjoyed a weekend of outdoor adventure at the U.S. National Whitewater Center, based in Charlotte. Through whitewater rafting, mountain biking and soaring over the whitewater rapids on the "Mega Zip", teens challenged themselves, forged new friendships, and shared experiences that will last a lifetime. The Fall Adventure Rally "gave local teens an opportunity to get out of their comfort zone and do something fun and active with their peers!", said Karla Creque, Youth and Teen Director for the Indian River Family YMCA, who traveled with the group.
The Leaders Clubs of the YMCA of South Hampton Roads provide leadership and social opportunities to youth, while fostering a culture of service. Teens ages 11-17 (rising 6th-12th graders) develop life-long skills that prepare them for future success. Teens commit to attending regular club meetings, providing a minimum number of community service hours each academic year, and serving as ambassadors for the YMCA in their community. More than 150 local teens participate in YMCA of South Hampton Roads’ Leaders Clubs.
