Amenity Guidelines

    General Guidelines for All Amenities
    • Do not enter any YMCA space if you have been exposed to COVID-19 in the past 14 days or are experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19.
    • In accordance with state guidelines and following guidance from the CDC, Department of Education and American Academy of Pediatrics, face coverings are required for all unvaccinated people ages 5+ who visit the Y. Face coverings may be removed while actively exercising or while in the pool, unless you are unable to maintain 10' of distance from others. Face coverings are strongly recommended for ages 2–4. Face coverings should not be worn by children younger than 2.
    • Face coverings are not required for those who have been fully vaccinated, unless they are in child care/youth program areas, where they are required.
    • Capacity limited are no longer in place, but you can see how busy your Y is by clicking here.
    • Water fountains have reopened.
    • We are happy to welcome nationwide members and guests back to the Y. Read our guest policy.
    • If you are not vaccinated, maintain at least six feet of distance between you and others when not actively exercising, and at least ten feet when actively exercising. If you are unable to maintain ten feet of distance, masks must be worn.
    Lobbies

    Lobbies are open for member use. Coffee stations remain closed.

    Wellness Centers

    If unvaccinated, when using cardio and strength equipment in the wellness center, maintain a distance of 10' between you and others or wear your mask.

    Fitness Classes

    Reservations are required to participate in fitness classes. Click here for schedules and to reserve your space.

    Personal Training

    YMCA certified personal trainers are available to help you reach your goals. When you purchase personal training, you'll work out with one-on-one guidance from your trainer.

    Stay & Play and Interactive Zones

    Stay & Play centers have reopened for most YMCAs. Check your local YMCA for hours.

    Interactive Zones have reopened for some YMCAs in Virginia.

    • Care is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
    • Care is provided for up to two hours per day, and is available on a drop-in basis. View hours at your YMCA.
    Pools

    Pools are open for lap swimming, open swim and water exercise classes. Reservations are not required for Open Swim (check pool capacity), however they are required for lap swim and water fitness classes.


    You can reserve your spot up to 7 days in advance. Reservations open two hours after the start time of your activity. (Example: a Tuesday 12pm lap lane time will open the previous Tuesday at 2pm)


    Lap lanes will be limited to three swimmers per lane.


    If swimming laps, children under the age of 13 must have a swim necklace indicating that they have passed the swim test.


    When on the pool deck, if unvaccinated, maintain a 6' distance between you and others, unless they are members of your family.


    Swim tests will be given at the start of each open swim session. When checking in, let YMCA staff know if you are interested in taking a swim test. All children under the age of 13 will be required to take/retake their swim test to be in the water beyond arm's reach of a parent/guardian.   


    Hot tubs, saunas, splash pads, spray pools and interactive play features have reopened.*

    *The Blocker Norfolk Family YMCA men's sauna remains closed while we await a parts shipment. We will open as quickly as possible.


    U.S. Coast Guard approved life jackets for nonswimmers must be provided by the member.   

    Racquetball and Tennis Courts

    Racquetball and tennis courts are open. Reservations are required.

    Gymnasiums

    Unless needed to allow for social distancing in child care programs, gymnasiums are open.

    Pickup games are available with the following guidelines:

    • A maximum of 15 people will be allowed in the gym at a time.
    • First come, first served format. Reservations are not required. 
    • We recommend that you play with members of your household or people who you regularly interact with.
    • If unvaccinated, maintain 10' of distance during play, except for incidental contact. If you are unable to maintain 10' of distancing, masks must be worn.

    When you first come back to the Y, you must sign the Assumption of Risk/Waiver of Liability.
