Come on in, the water's fine! Adults looking to challenge themselves without stress on their joints or members who just enjoy the water can take advantage of our different water exercise classes. Instructors lead small groups through water aerobics, core strengthening and much more. Gain muscle conditioning and cardiovascular endurance from the aeorobic choreography and the resistance of the water. Ideal for all fitness levels & non-swimmers. Water Exercise classes are FREE for Y members!
In addition to Water Exercise classes, the Y keeps lap lanes available at all times for those who want to work out in the water. Masters Swim Programs also provide the opportunity to refine swim skills with coach-led practices and friendly competition with fellow Y members.
Water Exercise Classes include:
20/20/20 (Water Fitness): This 60-minute class focuses on 20 minutes of cardio water exercises, 20 minutes of strength training, and 20 minutes of core exercises in the water.
Gentle Water Exercise: This class is designed for those challenged with the effects of arthritis, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis as well as those recovering from joint injury or surgery. The primary focus of this class is to strengthen muscles and improve joint flexibility and range of motion. Exercises are performed in water depth that is comfortable and allows you to maintain balance while exercising.
Arthritis Water Exercise: Led by a certified American Arthritis Foundation trained instructor, this shallow water class is designed for those living with the challenges of arthritis. The focus is to help improve mobility and pain by strengthening muscles and improving joint flexibility and range of motion. Power Aqua: This high-intensity class incorporates an overall body workout with a variety of cardio and strength training techniques. Both shallow and deep water suspension and power moves may be incorporated.
Abs (Water Fitness): This class focuses on exercises that strengthen and tone the core muscles of the abdominals and lower back.
Water Exercise: In addition to the cardiovascular portion of this class performed in shallow water, strength and flexibility exercises using resistance equipment may be incorporated.
Deep Water Exercise: In addition to the cardiovascular portion of this class performed in deep water, strength and flexibility exercises using resistance equipment may be incorporated.
Water Fit: This shallow water, low-impact class is designed to improve flexibility and strength as well as cardiovascular endurance. A great class to enhance mobility for performing daily activities.
Water Circuit: This circuit training class alternates muscular strengthening exercises with cardiovascular activities performed in shallow water.
Water Tabata: This high-intensity interval style training involves brief segments of intense intervals followed by lower intensity/recovery sections. Resistance equipment may be used.
Finning: Use of fins and kickboards in shallow and deep water are used to enhance the intensity of this cardio and strength exercise class.
Masters Swim: Coach-led sessions to improve endurance and speed using lap swimming format. All fitness levels are welcome.
Aqua Jog: Condition the upper and lower body while jogging in deep water wearing a flotation belt.
Water Pilates: Performed in deep and/or shallow water, this class works on slow stretching and strength exercises.
Aqua Tai Chi: This shallow water class focuses on breathing, focus, balance and coordination.
