With lap lanes, open swim times, water exercise classes, swim lessons, swim teams, water slides and playgrounds, the YMCA is well equipped to provide an enjoyable outlet of aquatic fun and fitness for the entire family. Our highly trained aquatic associates are nationally certified, holding certifications in CPR, AED, O2 Administration and Lifeguarding.

  Master Swim is a swim team for swimmers ages 18 and up. Sessions include a one-hour coached practice during which swimmers complete over 2000 yards, with instruction and emphasis on stroke development and improving endurance and strength.

Some members compete in the masters level USSA meets which occur several times a year in various Virginia locations.

Parent/Child Swim Lessons

  Designed for children 6 to 36 months old who will participate with a parent. Focus is on water orientation and adjustment. See Swim Lessons schedule for specific class dates and times.

Please note: Children under 3 years of age may not attend a Swim Lesson without a parent present in the water.

Power Abs
Days: Tues, Thurs
Time: 11:00 am - 11:30 am
  A water fitness class with a focus on strengthening the core muscles by utilizing the great properties of the water. This class uses water-specific equipment.
Preschool Swim Lessons

Time: 8:30 am - 6:30 pm
  Children ages 3 - 5 years, beginner to advanced. Emphasis will be on teaching fundamentals of swimming, personal safety, character development, rescue skills and water sports. See Swim Lessons schedule for specific class dates and times.

School-Age Swim Lessons

Time: 8:30 am - 6:30 pm
  Children ages 6 - 12 years, beginner to advanced learn skills pertaining to personal growth, stroke development, personal safety, rescue, water sports and games. Each child will have his/her skills evaluated the first day of class to ensure proper placement in the progressive program of the YMCA.

Terrific Turtles

  Held in the Therapy Pool, these small group Swim Lessons are for any child, ages 3 - 14, with an active I.E.P. Diagnosis needs to be stated on the registration form to ensure appropriate level of placement. For more information, please contact Aquatics Director, Lisa Dionne, at 757-546-9622.
