Inclement Weather Updates

Due to the winter weather, we will experience some service disruptions. The following updates are available as of 10:45 pm on January 21, 2025. 

BEFORE & AFTER-SCHOOL CARE

Wednesday, January 22, 2025

  • Where school is cancelled and the Y is able to open, the Y will provide inclement weather care for current before and after-school participants. Pre-registration is required by 11:59pm on Tuesday, January 21, using the link emailed to all current participant families. If we're unable to provide inclement weather care, any fees paid toward registration will be refunded.
    • Camden County Schools are cancelled. The Y will offer inclement weather care for current child care participants at the Albemarle Family YMCA.
    • Chesapeake Public Schools are cancelled. The Y will offer inclement weather care for current child care participants at the Great Bridge/Hickory Family YMCA, the Greenbrier Family YMCA and the Taylor Bend Family YMCA.
    • Currituck County Schools are cancelled. The Y will offer inclement weather care for current child care participants at the Currituck Family YMCA.
    • Franklin City Public Schools are cancelled. The Y will offer inclement weather care for current child care participants at the James L. Camp Jr. Family YMCA.
    • Norfolk Public Schools are cancelled. The Y will offer inclement weather care for current child care participants at the Blocker Norfolk Family YMCA and YMCA on Granby.
    • Northampton County Schools are cancelled. The Y does not offer inclement weather care for this location. The Y will offer inclement weather care for current child care participants at the James L. Camp Jr. Family YMCA.
    • South Hampton County Puclic Schools are cancelled. 
    • Suffolk Public Schools are cancelled. The Y will offer inclement weather care for current child care participants at the Suffolk Family YMCA.
    • Virginia Beach City Public Schools are cancelled. The Y will offer inclement weather care for current child care participants at the Hilltop Family YMCA, the Indian River Family YMCA, the Mt. Trashmore Family YMCA, the Princess Anne Family YMCA and Salem YMCA Family Center. 
  • Southampton County Schools will be delayed by two hours. If the Y is able to provide before-school care, drop-off will be available during regular operating hours. Children will stay at the Y and be transported to school at the school's scheduled opening time.

FACILITY UPDATES

  • All outdoor pools for YMCA of South Hampton Roads locations will be closed in the morning.

PROGRAMS & CLASSES

Tuesday, January 21, 2025

  • Albemarle Family YMCA: Tumbling is cancelled and has been rescheduled for Thursday, January 23.
  • Great Bridge/Hickory Family YMCA: Sports practices held at the Great Bridge Intermediate School are cancelled tonight.

When the weather gets bad, the YMCA of South Hampton Roads locations make a concerted effort to remain open and available to our community. However, conditions can sometimes become unsafe, and we have to close or delay opening until road conditions clear.
