Inclement Weather Updates

Due to the winter weather, we may experience some service disruptions. The following updates are available as of 7pm on December 8, 2025. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we monitor for school closures. We will report here anything that impacts Y services including how our after care will be impacted by school disruptions.

Tuesday, December 9

FACILITY OPERATIONS

  • First Tee — Hampton Roads will open at 10am on Tuesday.
  • The YMCA of South Boston/Halifax County will open at 8am on Tuesday. 24-hour access is available for those wishing to head to the Y overnight and before 8am on Tuesday.

CHILD CARE OPERATIONS

School Delays (Before-school care available at the Y)

  • Franklin Public Schools
  • Portsmouth Public Schools
  • Suffolk Public Schools
  • Virginia Beach City Public Schools

School Delays (No before-school care available at schools)

  • Chesapeake Public Schools
  • Currituck County Schools
  • Norfolk Public Schools

School Cancellations

  • Northampton County Schools are cancelled tomorrow. School's Out Camp is not available for that location.
  • Southampton County Public Schools are cancelled tomorrow. School's Out Camp will be offered for current before and after-school participants and pre-registration is required.

If school is cancelled tomorrow, we'll plan to offer inclement weather care as School's Out Camp for current before-school and after-school participants. Pre-registration is required.

Monday, December 8

FACILITY OPERATIONS

  • The YMCA of South Boston & Halifax County evening programs and amenities are closed from 4pm on. The wellness center is open regular hours and 24-hour access will remain open while it's safe.

CHILD CARE OPERATIONS

After-School Care Cancellations

  • Chesapeake Public Schools 
  • Currituck County Schools
  • Elizabeth City Public Schools
  • Norfolk Public Schools

Early Dismissal (After-school care available at the Y)

  • Camden County Public Schools
  • Portsmouth Public Schools
  • Virginia Beach City Public Schools

School Cancellations

  • Franklin City Public Schools and Southampton County Schools are cancelled. School's Out Camp will be provided at the James L. Camp Jr. Family YMCA.
  • Northampton County Schools are cancelled. Inclement weather care is not available for these schools.

When the weather gets bad, the YMCA of South Hampton Roads locations make a concerted effort to remain open and available to our community. However, conditions can sometimes become unsafe, and we have to close or delay opening until road conditions clear.
