Social Responsibility
Giving back and providing support to our neighbors
The Y has listened and responded to our communities’ most critical social needs for 160 years. Whether developing skills or emotional well-being through education and training, welcoming and connecting diverse demographic populations through global services, or preventing chronic disease and building healthier communities through collaborations with policymakers, the Y fosters the care and respect all people need and deserve. Through the Y, 500,000 volunteers and thousands of donors, leaders and partners across the country are empowering millions of people in the U.S. and around the world to be healthy, confident, connected and secure.
Locally, the YMCA of South Hampton Roads has set specific goals around social responsibility and we're working to reach these goals by 2020.
Our Goals
Volunteerism
We're working with members to provide over 250,000 volunteer hours of service to provide support to our neighbors and local communities.
Philanthropy
We're working to raise an additional $1,000,000 during our annual giving campaign, to provide financial assistance for YMCA programs to people in need.
We're also growing our endowment by 150 members and $4,000,000 to sustain the Y for generations to come.
Giving Back
We're expanding our community impact with a goal of providing scholarship assistance for YMCA programs to 1 in 3 participating households.
