Patrick's Health Has Never Been Better!

In January 2023, I made a pact with myself to get fit—not just for one reason or one season, but for life. My motivation stemmed from witnessing my father undergo his second major heart surgery, followed by my own wake-up call of learning that my cholesterol and blood pressure were too high. Both of these events underscored the urgency of a permanent lifestyle change.

I had joined different gyms over the years, always with high expectations but never with consistency or accountability. This time, I joined the YMCA for the community atmosphere, which I enjoyed during group fitness classes for the first two months. Then, in March, I transitioned to work with Robert Lawson, a certified personal trainer at the YMCA on Granby. Over the past 10 months, Robert has taught me the safest and most effective ways to lift weights, run, and regain my physique and overall well-being, while giving me the confidence to push myself further than I ever expected.

Since starting this fitness journey, my latest health report came back with great results: my cardiovascular system is working optimally, and my body is in great shape. In November, I reached my goal of running my first half marathon, and I’m signed up for another one in March. I’m excited to see where the Y will take me in 2024.
