Chesapeake, Virginia, February 12, 2019—The YMCA of South Hampton Roads is partnering to provide memberships at no cost to members of the nationally recognized SilverSneakers®program. Through this collaboration, the Hilltop Family YMCA, the Indian River Family YMCA, the YMCA of Portsmouth, and the YMCA of South Boston/Halifax County now offer older adults a way to increase their levels of physical activity while motivating them to remain active. SilverSneakers is the nation’s leading community fitness program designed exclusively for older adults.

SilverSneakers helps older adults take greater control of their health through a variety of fitness offerings that engages participants in more frequent strength training, aerobic, and flexibility exercise by providing access to a variety of venues and programming designed specifically for older adults. There are more than 14.5 million people eligible for the SilverSneakers benefit through the nation’s leading Medicare Advantage health plans, Medicare Supplement carriers and group retiree plans.  For those members, the benefit is offered at no additional cost.

The Y would like to invite any interested party to attend an Open House for SilverSneakers eligible members on Wednesday, March 20 from 8:30am-1pm at the locations listed above that now participate in the program. To learn more about its SilverSneakers offerings, call Kelly Bridgman, the YMCA of South Hampton Roads point of contact for the SilverSneakers program, at 757-638-9622.
