Marcus Daniel, Suffolk Family YMCA

Marcus Daniel, 2020 Recipient of the YMCA Volunteer Service Award for the YMCA of South Hampton Roads


Marcus has been a member of the Suffolk Y for almost 10 years. He is a huge part of our Youth Basketball program. Marcus volunteers his time every Saturday and referees every game. He not only serves as a referee, but also as a cheerleader for the players. After every basket, the players look for Marcus to give him a fist bump or elbow bump and Marcus always has words of encouragement. If a basket is missed, you can often hear Marcus shout, "That's okay, next time!" Many parents, coaches, and staff have expressed gratitude for Marcus and his encouraging spirit.
