The Y is a priority for the Gilliam family

The Y is many things to the Gilliam family. Joe works unusual hours as a pastor, and Sabrina homeschools all five children. Healthy living and community involvement is a priority to this family, and that is why they chose to join the Y.

“The Homeschool P.E. program fills in the gaps for us,” says Sabrina. Twice a week, she brings the children to the Y for their Homeschool P.E. classes, a complimentary benefit with membership. While the four older children burn off energy in class, Sabrina signs the youngest into Stay & Play and enjoys visiting with other moms or getting in a workout of her own. The variety of cardio equipment, combined with yoga classes, helps Sabrina stay healthy physically and mentally.

Joe also stays fit at the Y. If he’s not working out in the health and wellness room, he is volunteering his time as a youth sports coach. With four of their five children old enough to participate in Y sports, he gets a good portion of his workouts on the court and sports fields.

In addition to playing youth sports, the children have all learned to swim at the Y, and love spending time in the Play Zone and Interactive Zone. From the youngest to the oldest, this family has connected with both the staff and members. With smiles on their faces and energy in their steps, it is families like the Gilliams that make the Y so much more.
