What Is Artistic Swimming?

Artistic swimming combines swimming, strength, flexibility, and teamwork into a unique and expressive aquatic sport. At the Y, participants build confidence in the water while learning routines that blend movement, music, and coordination—all in a supportive, welcoming environment. Participants perform choreographed routines in the water, developing strength, endurance, timing, and teamwork along the way.
It’s a fun, challenging activity that encourages both physical fitness and creative expression.

Who This Program Is For

Artistic swimming is designed for youth who:

  • Are interested in a creative, team-based aquatic sport
  • Are able to or have passed the swim test
  • Want to build strength, confidence, and new friendships

Our program welcomes participants at different experience levels and focuses on growth, encouragement, and learning.

What Participants Will Gain With Artistic Swimming at the YMCA

At the Y, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to discover what they’re capable of physically, socially, and emotionally. Our artistic swimming program combines supportive, positive coaching with a focus on YMCA values, so swimmers can develop skills in a comfortable environment.

  • Positive, Knowledgeable Coaching: Parents can rest easy knowing their child is guided by encouraging instructors who focus on positive reinforcement and skill building.
  • Low-Pressure Environment: Unlike many high-stress competitive sports, our program emphasizes growth, fun, and personal progress without unnecessary pressure.
  • Physical Fitness & Water Mastery: Swimmers build core strength, flexibility, endurance, coordination, breath control, and overall water confidence.
  • Life & Teamwork Skills: Kids develop strong communication, teamwork, focus, and discipline in a collaborative setting.
  • Personal Growth: Participants gain self-confidence, a sense of accomplishment, and a lasting sense of belonging.
