Swim Team Black Group

Black Group Program Details

There is an emphasis on pace work, race tactics, endurance & speed

Practice Schedule:

Meet three times a week for one hour and 15 minutes


To participate, swimmers must be:
  • Age 6-18
  • Able to swim 100 yard individual medley with legal turns in under 2:00 minutes
  • Able to swim 100 yard front crawl (freestyle) with appropriate turns and streamlines.
  • Able to swim 100 yard backstroke with appropriate turns and streamlines.
  • Complete a 50 yard fly and breaststroke
  • Ability to listen and execute an independent set of instructions, as well as to interact positively with teammates
  • Attend a minimum of 4 YMCA meets per season.
  • Attend at least 2 practices a week (Regular attendance at practices and meets will be required to be considered for promotion to Advanced)
     
Fees:

Swim team fees range from $84–$90/month depending on your location and are drafted monthly on the 1st.

Registration:

All swimmers interested in joining the swim team are required to attend an assessment with the team’s coaches. To get started, register for your swim team assessment and our aquatics team will reach out to schedule your swimmer’s time.

What swimmers develop in Black Group:
  • Ability to follow set instructions and pace-clock intervals.
  • Continued refinement of all strokes and Individual Medley turn and stroke structure. 
  • Develop skills above to be able to:
    • Swim legal 200 yard front crawl (freestyle) with appropriate turns and streamlines.
    • Swim legal 100 backstroke with appropriate turns and streamlines.
    • Legal 25 fly and 25 breast.
  • Stroke Refinement
  • Improve endurance and speed.
  • Race strategy.
  • Develop skills above to have the ability to swim:
    • Swim 500 Free under 8:00
    • Swim 12 x 100 Free under 2:00.
    • Swim 2 x 200 IM on 4:00 interval
    • Kick 10 x 50s on 1:10 interval
