Did you know that our CEO started as a part-time summer camp counselor? When you work for the Y, you can stay for a summer or make it a lifelong career. Many on our leadership team got their start part time at the Y and with opportunities to cross train, you don't just have to stay where you start—you could keep members safe in the water by being a lifeguard, support the development of kids and teens after school and welcome members to the Y, all in the same week! You can also continue your career with the Y even if you leave the Hampton Roads area through the National Vacancy List.

Meet Kale
As a first-year college student and lifeguard, Kale says the friendships and family atmosphere at the Y are nice benefits of the job. But the training she continuously receives in her role at the Y proved to be more meaningful, and critical, when she used her training in an unexpected place to save someone's life.

A tree needs to be your friend if you're going to paint him. The light is your friend. Preserve it. You can do it. You can't make a mistake. Anything that happens you can learn to use - and make something beautiful out of it. All you have to learn here is how to have fun.
